Vicolo Bianco Living was developed in Bologna’s Mazzini-Fossolo district through the transformation of a site within an already established urban fabric. The residential project was conceived with a clear objective: to create new homes combining architectural quality, contemporary comfort and a stronger connection with outdoor spaces, while preserving the quiet and private character of the surrounding area.
The project created nine residences arranged over four levels, differing in size and layout but sharing the same focus on liveability and construction quality.
The same principle of connection with the surrounding context continues within the design of the homes themselves. The aim was to give equal importance to indoor and outdoor spaces, providing residents with green areas and spaces to enjoy every day.
Terraces, projecting volumes and integrated planters therefore become an integral part of the living experience. This approach is especially evident on the top two floors: on the third floor, a 172 sqm residence opens onto a large green terrace; on the fourth, a 156 sqm penthouse is surrounded by a panoramic terrace overlooking the hills of Bologna.
The close proximity of existing buildings and the size of the site required particular attention to the distribution of volumes, views, privacy and natural light.
Building heights, openings and outdoor spaces were designed in relation to the existing urban fabric, giving the building its own identity while maintaining a balanced relationship with the neighbouring properties. The result is a contemporary and distinctive architecture, carefully integrated into the district and able to engage with its surroundings.
Its location, on a quiet side street just a few steps from Via Emilia Levante, also offers a private and peaceful setting, with schools, parks, shops, healthcare services and public transport all within easy reach.
Vicolo Bianco Living was built to A4 energy-class standards, the highest level in the Italian building energy performance classification. Building envelope, insulation, shading systems, building services and renewable energy technologies were developed as parts of a single integrated system, with the aim of reducing energy consumption and ensuring year-round indoor comfort.
Vicolo Bianco Living brought nine new homes to life, all of which have now been sold. It is a project in which construction quality, energy efficiency, outdoor spaces and attention to the surrounding context were developed as parts of a single coherent vision.
Today, the building stands as a new presence within the neighbourhood, designed to last and to be lived in every day.
